Webasto confirms three more employees in Germany diagnosed with the coronavirus

Webasto has confirmed that in addition to the employee who fell ill with the coronavirus at its headquarters in Stockdorf, near Munich in Germany earlier this week, three further cases have been detected and it has now temporarily closed its site and stopped all staff business travel.

An employee from Webasto China visited Stockdorf last week and tested positively for the coronavirus after his return to China. On Monday this week, Webasto announced an employee at the Stockdorf site was infected with the coronavirus, and now there are three other employees who work there who have also tested positive for the disease.

Webasto had already cancelled all business trips to and from China for at least the next two weeks and employees at the Stockdorf location were offered to work at home this week. Following the news that the Coronavirus had spread to three further employees, Webasto is taking further actions to protect its workforce and prevent the coronavirus spreading further:

  • until Sunday, February 2, 2020: temporary closure of the Stockdorf site
  • until Sunday, February 2, 2020: any travel of employees from the company’s headquarters in Stockdorf to national and international locations is stopped (for China it remains two weeks)
  • Wednesday, January 29, 2020: Start of systematic testing of identified contacts to the concerned persons by a team of doctors from the public health department

Webasto remains in close contact with the responsible authorities and follows the recommendations of the Robert Koch Institute.

“We have currently notice of three further employees who tested positive and at the moment we are investigating the colleagues who were in contact with them,” explains Holger Engelmann, CEO of the Webasto Group.

“We are in close exchange with the relevant authorities and inform our employees regularly about the next steps. It is important to us, to inform our employees in a transparent and comprehensive way”, says Engelmann.

After the illness of the Chinese Webasto employee had been made known publicly, Webasto immediately informed – besides the Chinese authorities – the relevant authorities in the district of Starnberg and is in close communications with them.
