Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will bring the successors to today’s Transporter 6.1 and Caravelle 6.1 onto the market in 2025. The new generation of the series has been significantly improved in all areas.

In order to enable all corporate and private customers to plan long-term vehicles, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is starting pre-sales of the new Transporter in Germany from December 14th 2023.

The new Transporter is 5,050 mm long. This corresponds to an increase of 146 mm compared to its predecessor. The wheelbase increased at the same time by 97 to 3,100 mm, and there will be an optional wheelbase extended by 400 mm (total length: 5,450 mm). At 2,032 mm, it offers an exterior width that is 128 mm larger than its predecessors (without exterior mirrors).

For the first time, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has developed a series with the new models that will be available with both turbodiesel and plug-in hybrid and electric drives.

The larger external dimensions fully benefit the interior, so that even more cargo can be transported or passengers can be transported even more comfortably.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will offer the new Transporter as a panel van (rear without windows), panel van Plus (with second row of seats), panel van with L-partition, as a station wagon (rear with windows) and as a long platform truck with a double cab and at a later date as a Caravelle (covering in the interior). The station wagon and panel van models will also be optionally available with a high roof and an extended wheelbase, although the high roof can now also be combined with the shorter wheelbase.

More loading volume, payload and trailer load: Through Thanks to the increase in external length, width and wheelbase, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles was able to significantly increase the loading volume of the new model generation. The values ​​for the highest payload and trailer load have also been further improved. The largest storage volume of the van with a standard wheelbase and standard roof grew to 5.8 m3. The maximum width between the wheel arches increased by a significant 148 mm to 1,392 mm. The payload of the van with standard wheelbase and TDI drive increased from 1.2 to 1.3 tons.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles was able to increase the maximum trailer load (braked on a 12% gradient) of this version from 2.5 to 2.8 tonnes in the diesel panel van for the power levels 110 kW and 125 kW. Last, but not least, the maximum dynamic roof load increased from 150 to 170 kg.
By differentiating commercial vehicles from purely privately used vehicles and leisure vehicles, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles was able to maximally improve the vehicle properties for different areas of application and now, with the new Transporter, offer a vehicle in the B segment that is more of a commercial vehicle than ever before.

This next generation combines significantly expanded standard equipment compared to its predecessors, including a digital cockpit, central screen and the latest assistance systems, as well as a completely redesigned program of highly efficient drives.

With its clearly designed front and rear sections, the new Transporter visually fits into the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles model range. At the front, standard LED headlights characterize the aerodynamic design for a commercial vehicle of this size. Standard LED taillights are also standard. Like their predecessors, the new Transporter models can be configured with either a tailgate or wide-opening rear wing doors.

Extended standard equipment: In addition to the new LED headlights and LED taillights, the new transporter will have standard features such as an electronic parking brake plus auto hold function, a digital 12-inch instrument cluster (” Digital Cockpit”), an infotainment system (including DAB+, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, online services and 13-inch touchscreen), a multifunction steering wheel, a rain sensor, the lane departure warning system “Lane Assist”, the emergency braking system “Front Assist” and traffic sign recognition with wrong-way warning on board.

For the first time, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will be offering the new Transporter with a plug-in hybrid drive (eHybrid) and pure electric drives (as an alternative to the turbo diesel engines (TDI) at a later date). eTransporter) onto the market. The batteries of the E models will have an energy content (gross) of 83 kWh; The basic version with the 85 kW electric motor is offered with a 54 kWh battery (gross). The TDI and eHybrid models are front-wheel drive.

The 4MOTION all-wheel drive is available as an option for the TDI versions from 110 kW. The purely electric models have rear-wheel drive, and an all-wheel drive version is also planned for a later date.
This means that Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will offer a larger and more innovative drive range for the new Transporter than ever before.

The new Transporter with its greatly expanded standard equipment and the 81 kW (110 hp) TDI entry-level engine can be configured when ordered early in the first few months at prices starting from 36,780 Euros (net). (net).
