Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles celebrates the 30th anniversary of its plant in Poland

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its plant in Poznan, Poland where it builds the Caddy and Crafter vans.

Established in 1993 as a joint venture between Volkswagen AG and the Polmo Agricultural Car Factory, the company has transformed from humble beginnings into a frontrunner in the automotive industry, becoming the largest car manufacturer in Poland as well as the largest employer in the Wielkopolska region.

This is the result of the dedication and hard work of the employees who have played a pivotal role in shaping its growth and success. The company initially employed 48 people and assembled the Volkswagen T4 Transporter. Today, there are 9,500 people working on four production sites and Volkswagen Poznań is the world’s only manufacturer of such well-known vehicles as the VW Caddy and VW Crafter vans.

“Today, the company is an integral part of the industrial and economic environment in Poland and Wielkopolska,” says Stefanie Hegels, CEO of Volkswagen Poznań. “All our employees – current ones and those who worked at our plants years ago and who may already be retired today – deserve a big thank you!”

Josef Baumert, member of the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand Board of Management responsible for Production and Logistics, explains: “Volkswagen Poznań has undergone dynamic development over the past 30 years: from a small assembly plant to the largest and most modern automotive site in Poland. Attractive products, modern vehicle production and motivated employees form the basis for this success story, which we will now carry forward into the future.”
