The Dethleffs E.HOME Alpen Challenge: a successful test for the first electrically-powered caravan

Record run: A team from Dethleff’s E.HOME Caravan and AUDI AG e-tron have towed 400 km over the Alps without charging! The all-electric car and electrically-powered Dethleffs E. HOME caravan went from the Dethleffs factory in southern Germany across the Alps to Lake Garda in six hours, sustainably, electrically and even with residual energy in the batteries.

In 2018, with the E.HOME Coco, our caravan prototype with its own electric drive, we gave an answer to the question of how sustainable travel can work in the future. A lot has happened since then and in July 2021 the time had come: In a challenging caravan tour across the Alps, Dethleffs and its project partners Erwin Hymer Group and ZF Friedrichshafen AG demonstrated the practical maturity of the E.HOME concept with a prototype – with success!

“Even if there are still hurdles to overcome before it is ready for series production and approval, the E.HOME Caravan developed by Dethleffs, the Erwin Hymer Group and ZF is already a practical and sustainable solution for environmentally conscious and economically sensible caravanning for everyone. In this way, Dethleffs once again lives up to its claim as a caravan pioneer.”
