THE CAB – the world’s first 3D-printed RV shell made from recycled polymer

On June 4th, at Lugano Airport, the Swiss company LG Project Management officially unveiled THE CAB – the first fully 3D-printed mobile living module made from 100% recycled polymer.

THE CAB is not just a prototype: it is a fully functional, road-ready monocoque structure, printed in a single piece using a technopolymer derived from PET waste. This recycled material undergoes a transformation process that enhances its mechanical, thermal, and structural performance, making it suitable for intensive outdoor use.

The printing process eliminates the need for traditional molds and adhesives, reducing environmental impact and allowing for complete design freedom. The result is a seamless, water-tight shell, with excellent thermal insulation properties and high resistance to mechanical stress and vibration.

Key benefits of the design include:

    • A modular approach, enabling the unit to serve as a camper, mobile office, tiny house, or floating home;
    • Total customization, both in structure and interior layout, thanks to 3D design-to-print integration;
    • Built-in cavities and wall channels for easy integration of technical systems (electrical, water, heating), directly during the print phase;
    • Weight efficiency: the printed shell, including openings, weighs approximately 600 kg and requires about 5 days of continuous printing;
    • Structural repairability: in case of damage, localized restoration of the monocoque is possible.

The material used is non-toxic, UV-resistant, and offers a good level of fire retardancy. THE CAB has been engineered to comply with European road regulations (category B) and is compatible with multiple chassis configurations.
