The Salone del Camper 2022 in Parma, Italy, closed with record results of over 110,000 visitors, an increase of 10% compared to 2021.
“A result that confirmed the expectations and growth forecasts of the phenomenon of motorhoming, evidenced by both the increase in demand for vehicles and the occupation of campsites and rest areas,” reads the closing press release.
The numbers of FAITA-FederCamping speak for themselves: the first 4 months of the 2022 tourist season have already recorded an increase of 8% in arrivals and 7% in overnight stays in Italy, far exceeding the levels of 2019.
At the opening of the Salone del Camper, the Minister of Tourism, Massimo Garavaglia, suggested that the development of the tourism industry represents 9% of Italian GDP (13-14% aggregate) and 15% of employment. Minister Garavaglia announced at the Salone del Camper, the allocation of funds for the construction in Italy of 1,000 new motorhome rest areas.
“Travelling tourism,” said Antonio Cellie, CEO of Fiere di Parma, “is confirmed as a megatrend capable of influencing the growth of the Italian tourism industry. This is an opportunity that the Italian government, regions, and municipalities must seize, because it favours the local and national economy, enriches lesser-known territories, and interprets the transformation of tourism in a sustainable key. After all, the fact that of the 25 million Italians who took vacation in 2022, one in five planned an outdoor stay makes it clear that the growth of the phenomenon has become structural. Since the data are not yet definitive, and given the trend, it is conceivable that the season will close even more favorably. With the Salone del Camper, Fiere di Parma underlines the importance of itinerant tourism and contributes to its development.“
The show hosted more than 300 direct and indirect exhibitors, with 15 countries represented, five pavilions, 41 manufacturer brands, four themed areas, and approximately 100,000 square meters were occupied.
Media coverage of the show has been enormous, with 471 accredited media including journalists, bloggers and youtubers, 944 articles published, reports on the most important national television and radio stations, 35 million people reached by information on the Salone and a great success on social channels, with a growth of over 98% (including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter) of fans of the Salone del Camper: almost 2 million people were reached through Facebook, and 3.3 million Instagram impressions.
“The massive turnout of the public at the Salone del Camper,” declared Simone Niccolai president of APC – Associazione Produttori Camper, “has clearly shown the great interest of Italians in the world of itinerant tourism: not only for holidays, but also for use smart leisure time, in complete safety and comfort. Today, true luxury is just that. We were also very happy with the participation of the institutions, starting with the Minister of Tourism, in the presence of many Italian Regions, exhibiting at the Salone, and of many mayors from many areas of Italy, a sign that the administrations have understood the tourist importance of this sector for the economic development of the territories“.
Next year’s Salone del Camper will take place from September 9 to 17, 2023.
