Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has released the first sketches of the new California 6.1, showing a completely redesigned front and some interior enhancements, ahead of its world debut at the Düsseldorf Caravan Salon next month.
More than 18,000 California campervans are sold each year (2018), making it the number one campervan in Europe, ideal for big trips or any daily journey.
The California’s multifunctional control unit in the roof console has been redesigned and digitalised. The living and sleeping areas of the new 6.1 model have also been carefully enhanced and optimised.
A redesigned dashboard includes new instruments with, for the first time, the option of digital instrumentation. New online infotainment systems with integrated eSIM open up the world of mobile online services.
Like the new Multivan 6.1 presented earlier this year, the new California 6.1 features electromechanical power steering, plus there are new assistance systems to enhance safety and comfort; these include: “Lane Assist”, Side Protection and “Trailer Assist”, which makes manoeuvring with a trailer child’s play. In addition, a side-wind compensation system makes travelling in the California 6.1 even safer.
The new California T6.1 will be launched with highly efficient 2.0-litre turbodiesel engines with outputs of up to 146 kW /199 PS.
The new camper generation will celebrate its world premiere at the end of August at the Caravan-Salon in Düsseldorf.
