The latest figures from the RV market in Sweden show that the country enjoyed a steady year of new leisure vehicle registrations with particular promising signs towards the end of 2024.
Sweden’s National Association of the Caravan and Motorhome Industry (Husvagns och Husbilsbranschens Riksförbund) reported that a total of 4,576 leisure vehicles were registered in the country in 2024.
This figure pushes the total number of registered caravans in Sweden to around 300,000 and the total number of motorhomes to around 120,000. Combined this means Sweden is the country with the highest number of RVs per capita in all of Europe.
New motorhome registrations in Sweden during 2024 stood at 2,875 which is a 7.48 per cent increase on the figure from 2023. Meanwhile new caravan registrations stood at 1,701, which is a decrease of around 17 per cent on 2023.
The cautious start to new RV registrations in 2024 eventually gave way to a rapid increase in motorhome registrations in particular, according to Husvagns och Husbilsbranschens Riksförbund.
The association also said that the announcement of the abolition of the malus tax on mobile homes and reduced interest had a positive effect.
The organisation’s President, Per Nilsson, said: “Camping and mobile living retain their popularity even though we were affected by a weak Swedish economy at the beginning of the year.
“Interest in new motorhomes continues to increase and towards the end of the year we see that even the numbers of new registrations for motorhomes are moving in the right direction. We also receive positive signals from Svensk Camping, First Camp, and Caravan Club that the interest in camping and mobile living is greater than ever.”
