NCC postpones Motorhome and Caravan Show until 2022

The UK’s NCC (National Caravan Council) has taken the decision to reschedule the Motorhome & Caravan Show from October 2021 to October 2022.

This decision was taken after feedback from exhibitors and, while the industry is seeing unprecedented demand from consumers for leisure vehicles as a result of the UK staycationning boom, because of challenges in the supply chain which made the timing of this year’s show, and the additional demand it would generate, untenable for some.

The Motorhome & Caravan Show is one of the top 5 of all indoor consumer exhibitions in the UK with over 1,000 + leisure vehicles and hundreds of exhibitors.

On 25th June 2021 the UK government published its report on their first round of pilot test events.  NCC Events, which organises the show, anticipates that the updated event guidance will help organisers manage the potential risks of running large-scale indoor events by implementing proportionate mitigating measures, but these are unknown at present. Accordingly, it was not currently possible for NCC Events to advise what COVID-19 restrictions or measures would be required for exhibition stands in October.

NCC Events was acutely aware that it was only 14 weeks to the show opening and many exhibitors were having to consider large scale financial commitments in terms of stand design and build, including all the operational stand management considerations. It has, therefore, made this announcement as early as possible to give exhibitors as much notice as possible.

Whilst exhibitors will be entitled to a full refund, they will firstly be given a time limited opportunity to roll over their stand bookings to the Motorhome & Caravan Show 2022. This offer will allow exhibitors to retain the previously published October 2020 stand rates and thus avoid an imminent and unavoidable stand space rate increase for 2022. The Events Team will be contacting exhibitors to discuss this.

The NCC Events team will now turn its focus to the Caravan, Camping & Motorhome Show in February 2022 at the NEC as this will be the ‘kick start’ industry event for the new 2022 season. This show is already over 70% sold with all the key manufacturers signed up to display their new 2022 models.

The timing of this show allows a period for the supply chain to recover and for a full understanding and implementation of further government guidance. It will also support those visitors who have been shielding and allow them time to build their confidence in attending indoor events.

John Lally, Director General of the NCC said: “I would also like to express my thanks to our exhibitors for their support and understanding. We know that many of them, our partners, our visitors, the NEC, and our suppliers were looking forward to being able to get together as an industry and community. Our February event at the NEC will now provide that opportunity and I very much look forward to seeing everyone there.”
