A study conducted at the 2025 edition of the International Caravanning Show in Barcelona, Spain, has revealed that 75 per cent of attendees prefer motorhomes and campervans as their choice of leisure vehicle.
The breakdown of the study shows that 40.51 per cent of attendees at the show at the Fira de Barcelona had most interest in acquiring a motorhome, while 34.48 per cent were most interested in campervans.
Just 25 per cent of those surveyed said they were most interested in the classic, towable caravan – a figure that backs up a wider trend across many European countries.
Further evidence that motorhomes and campers are the main protagonists of the Spanish leisure vehicle industry comes from the country’s main association ASEICAR, which confirmed that in 2024, around 85 per cent of new vehicles registered in the country were campervans or motorhomes (11,820 vehicles, split almost evenly between the two categories).
ASEICAR say that the type of buyer in Spain is different for these two main categories, with campervans being the preferred model for couples with a normally more contained budget, while motorhomes are chosen by more experienced tourers with bigger families and larger budgets.
Vans have grown their presence within the Caravanning Show in Spain, which is running from 11 to 19 October, now occupying around 5,000 square metres of the exhibition floorspace.
Another interesting aspect of the study was that 72.4 per cent of those questioned said that family tourism experiences are their priority, which means travelling with a partner and children.
