Motorhome and Caravan Show 2022 breaks new attendance record

Following a three year absence due to the pandemic, the Motorhome and Caravan Show 2022, UK’s largest display of Leisure Vehicles, drew to a close with a record number of visitors attending across the six days.

104,521 visitors attended this year’s Motorhome & Caravan Show at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC), Birmingham between 18 – 23 October. It is the UK’s largest display of Leisure Vehicles.

With the industry’s leading manufacturers, dealers and experts all under one roof, many exhibitors including Coachman, Swift, Adria, Bailey of Bristol, Erwin Hymer Group and Knaus have praised the success of the Show, both in terms of sales as well as visitor numbers.

As well as getting a first-look at new-for-2023 campervans, caravans, motorhomes and a huge range of tech, gadgets and accessories to take on-the-road-holidays to the next level, visitors also heard inspiring stories from leading experts in the world of outdoor adventures. Featuring talks from some of the UK’s biggest nature-loving personalities, the event’s Inspiration Theatre saw celebrities including Simon Reeve, Toyah Willcox, Jeff Brazier and Josie Gibson share their experiences of the great outdoors and provide top-tips on where to go and how to make the most of adventures.

Terry Dullaghan, Managing Director at NCC Events, said: “It’s the first time this Show has taken place since 2019 and we’re over the moon to be back delivering another successful event with the biggest audience the Show has ever seen. We have seen a huge influx of people who have a brand new appreciation for the outdoors and exploring what’s right on their doorstep and it’s pleasing that this has resulted in a strong level of sales for our exhibitors.

“We’d like to say thanks to all the visitors who travelled from across the UK to visit the Show, our exhibitors, partners and sponsors for their continued support and are looking forward to producing another fantastic Caravan, Camping & Motorhome Show at the NEC in February 2023.”

Amy MacDonnell, Events & Marketing Manager of Swift Group Ltd., said: “The Motorhome and Caravan Show has been the best place to showcase our 2023 ranges and launch our new models to market, coupled with meeting our customers in person and achieving record breaking sales – the show has been bigger and better than ever!”

Simon Howard, Marketing Director of Bailey of Bristol, said: “Great to be back at the NEC in October to showcase our new season caravan and motorhome ranges. The record breaking attendance audience delivered strong sales throughout the week meaning our order book for both product sectors extends well into the next calendar year.”

Ben Parker, Sales Director at Coachman, said: “The Show exceeded our expectations and considering the current climate, the amount of people still coming and buying is really encouraging. We’re extremely happy with where we’ve finished and can’t wait to come back in February and October 2023!”

Rachel Moncrieff, Marketing & Communications Manager at Erwin Hymer Group UK Ltd, said: “The 6-day-long show was the first time, since October 2019, that Erwin Hymer Group’s Brands have exhibited alongside each other, and, as such, we were delighted to be able to showcase the the variety and breath of our product portfolio to this year’s show visitors. Erwin Hymer Group has over the years developed a strong engagement with our customers and we were thrilled that a great number of our community – with whom we enjoy regular online interaction – were able to come to the NEC Birmingham and meet us in person.”

Nick Lomas, Director General at the Caravan and Motorhome Club, said, “It was great to be back at The Motorhome and Caravan Show and to see so many Club members who visited us on our stands.  Touring is a really affordable option and the demand for this type of holiday shows no signs of abating.  We were delighted to see 20% more members join the Club at the show than previously. The show was a great opportunity for those new to the pastime to see and be inspired by all this leisure pursuit has to offer.”

Michelle Jewel, Marketing Manager (Partnerships & Events) at the Camping and Caravanning Club, said: “It’s been a fantastic Show for us this year and it’s brilliant to see visitor numbers so high yet again. Each day was consistently busy and we are really pleased with our new recruitment figures. It really exceeded our expectations and the response we’ve had to launching our Outjoyment study has been brilliant.”

Ben Dawes, General Manager at Vantage Motorhomes Ltd, said: “The show was a record breaking show for us. We were tremendously busy every day from the moment the doors opened. We took an additional stand to launch our new pop-top campervans, (the Vantage Luna and the Vantage Fuze), and it was the perfect platform to introduce the new range. We had interest from the media as well as from customers and very strong sales. We’re already looking forward to the February show.’

Alex Homes, Product Designer at Colapz, said: “We’ve had a great Show this year with hgh sales and lots of interest in our newly launched products, keeping the team and the stand constantly busy. For us, one of the best things about this year’s Show was the mix of returning and brand new customers.”

Alison Manning, UK Partner at QUQUQ, said: “We’ve had another great Show and it’s been amazing having so many people come to see us. Getting our product out there for people to physically see and understand how it works is exactly why we do this and we will definitely continue to do so to show off our new and existing models.”

Sarah Shrewing, Founder of Harbour Hounds, said: “This was our first time at the Motorhome and Caravan Show and it has just been the most incredible experience. We do lots of other Shows throughout the year, and this has been better than Crufts, which is phenomenal.”

Marie Nichols, PA to Directors at Park4Night, said: “We were pleased to attend the Motorhome and Caravan Show in Birmingham this year. Being the first show we have attended in the UK we were thrilled to have the opportunity to meet our current users, present the application to new users and highlight new projects. It was also fantastic to engage with the speakers at the Inspiration Theatre, as well as other exhibitors and influencers.”
