Lippert R-Bike: the new modular bike carrier system for vans

Lippert has announced the release of the R-Bike, its new, industry-first, modular bike carrier system. It is designed to hold two e-bikes or three traditional bikes using an optional rail accessory. The R-Bike is initially available for the Fiat Ducato (the Ram Promaster in North America) and its siblings, the Citroën Jumper and Peugeot Boxer. In September, it will also be available for the Mercedes Sprinter, the Ford Transit and the Volkswagen Crafter. To make it as versatile as possible, the R-Bike can be used to mount an original line of Lippert storage accessories and has also been designed to use with the most popular bike carrier attachments in the market today.

Lippert put a significant amount of design and engineering investment into developing the new R-Bike system. In keeping with the primary goal of making the camping lifestyle more comfortable, and with ease of use in mind, the R-Bike’s modular accessory system can be used to carry skis, snowboards, surf boards or cargo carriers. Additional storage accessories are planned for the R-Bike Carrier System which will be introduced in the near future.

From the technical point of view, the bike carrier is made of oxidized and painted aluminum tubes with 30 x 45 mm oval section. This solution provides greater structural strength than that offered by round tubes and guarantees the maximum loading capacity of the R-Bike up to the remarkable weight of up to 40 kg in any configuration.

A choice of finishes available include standard silver aluminum or a black version for owners who are looking for a more unique look to match some of the more modern van designs. With its load capacity of 40 kg and weighing in at just under 10 kg, the R-Bike competes with any other carrier system on the market today.

Lippert has developed a new structural solution for the R-Bike which allows the bike carrier to be used with a new tailgate bonding system using a single component polyurethane glue. This solution means that no screws are needed for installation and that no holes need to be drilled in the vehicle bodywork. The distribution of the load between the oval structure of the tubes and the gluing system was the subject of a particularly accurate study during the design phase.

“When developing this product, we started from a simple market observation that the van segment is displaying a constant growth trend. It is asserting itself as the recreational vehicle of the future on a commercial level for manufacturers and as one of the key reference vehicles for future customers, who are younger and looking for agility and practicality. With its innovative design and, above all, its distinguishing versatility and multiplicity of use, the R-Bike will raise the quality bar in the field of bike carriers for vans,” said Tommaso Gasparrini, Aftermarket Sales Manager, Lippert RV Europe. “With this innovative and aesthetically unique range of products we want to be ready for aftermarket customers and, above all, OEM customers. Being able to effectively utilise the exterior space of a van like this is a winner. Lippert has invested a lot in the research of the appearance and structural components, and designing and rethinking the system from scratch to take into account the changes in the needs of campervans users around the world,” added Tommaso Gasparrini.

The R-Bike line is already included in the Reimo and S.I.F.I. catalogues and will be available from all major Lippert European distributors starting from May 2021. A final goal set by Lippert for this product is to present the complete R-Bike range for the vans of all the major manufacturers operating in the sector at the 2021 Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf.
