LCI’s Euro Slide out: the success factor

The Euro Slide has been designed specifically for the European market by Lippert Components (NYSE: LCII) (“LCI”), the leading supplier to the original equipment manufacturers (“OEMs”) of recreational vehicles (“RVs”) and world leader in the production of slide-out systems with over 100,000 produced annually. In Europe, this technology is attracting lots of interest, not only because it provides space on demand when it’s really needed, but also because with the same footprint area it allows a weight and dimension’s reduction on the vehicle. For instance, on a 7.5 meter caravan with transverse bath in the back, French bed and U shaped dinette in the front, the introduction of the Euro Slide provides an 11% saving in length (from 7.5 to 6.7 m) and a 5% saving in weight (from 1974 kilos to 1868). Adria, as the first company in Europe introducing slide-out systems on a Motorhome below 6 meters, has reached significant sales on the Compact series thanks to the intelligent use of the “space on demand” concept that the Euro Slide mechanism provides.

“We had an understanding of slide-out technology and we had a technological solution, that was different than the solutions already on the market – says Matjaž Grm, Executive Sales and Marketing director at Adria – The dilemma was in which product it would have been implemented. So the idea was that the slide-out should be mounted on the smallest motorhome, where it best addresses the problems associated with a reduced space. There are many different applications of slide-outs in leisure vehicles. For Adria there was a big need of space enlargement in the Compact series, so we designed a bigger sleeping area in our compact vehicle. Sales totally exceeded our expectations: the sales of the Compact series doubled with the implementation of the slide–out model Compact SLS and SCS”.

The Euro Slide is equipped with a single piece, co-extruded V-shaped advanced rubber seal that works in conjunction with its wide radius corners and flat side walls to create the most secure passive seal system on the market. The system also features four independent DC motors that equally distribute a strong seal at each corner. The electronically controlled independent motors not only provide for a smooth, synchronized transition The Euro Slide’s radius corners and narrow exterior molding match the other doors and fixtures on the outside of the vehicle to provide a cohesive style and flush, modern appearance.

“We are very satisfied with our collaboration with Adria, it was a project that immediately added great value for European campers” – says Larry Revelino, LCI’s Director of International Business Development – Lippert Components has participated for several years in the European trade fairs building our understanding about how Slide Out technology could best benefit the European market. It has been interesting to learn how many campers require a leisure vehicle that is light weight while traveling yet spacious to live in. Our slide out technology enables the customer to have both…Travel Light and Live Big. Now that we can bring a European style that withstands the toughest of rain storms the popularity will continue to grow and you will see other OEM’s unveil a variety of solutions leveraging the LCI slide out technology.”
