Gerry Ryan AO OAM, the founder and owner of iconic caravan brand Jayco, has been appointed as an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the country’s 2026 Australia Day Honours.
The prestigious honour recognises Gerry for his more than 50 years of service to sports governance, business, tourism and hospitality, and the community through philanthropy.
Gerry founded Jayco in 1976 with, in his own words, ‘a small loan and big vision’ and has since grown the company to become Australia’s largest caravan manufacturer and one of its best-loved brands, all while still maintaining its manufacturing in the country.
Known for his belief in hard work and backing local industry, Gerry has also made multiple longstanding philanthropic efforts throughout his career.
Some of the causes he has supported include: youth development and education programmes; medical research and health charities, such as long-standing support for StarBall, Fight MND, Alfred Health, the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation, and the Murdoch Children’s Research Centre; children’s and family charities like Starlight Children’s Foundation; indigenous Australian communities; and community and cultural organisations, including social welfare initiatives.
A statement from Jayco said: “This honour is a proud moment for the entire Jayco family — our people, our dealers, and the millions of Australians who have explored this country with Jayco by their side.”
