Iridium produces second generation of motorhomes with electric drive at Düsseldorf

A second generation electric-powered motorhome from Iridium will debut at the Caravan Salon Düsseldorf  later this month. Its 108kW battery capacity promises enough energy to travel over 400kms.

A new battery technology enhances massively the energy density of the energy storage. The second generation of Iridium mobiles will make use of Li-Fe-batteries with ceramic separators. With them, the e-mobiles will be able to drive 400 kilometers without loading. For battery load Iridium integrated two technologies: drivers may use fast charging with the CCS standard (actually 50kW/h, in future up to 100 kW/h) or the common standard type 2 plug (up to 22 kW/h). More details will be given at the premiere of the vehicle in Düsseldorf at a press conference on August 31st.

The core of the new Iridium-E-motorhome is again a highly efficient synchronous motor, with power of 150 kW and a torque of 730 Nm.

This second generation model comes just eight months after Iridium’s world premiere of a motorhome with all electric drive at the Stuttgart CMT travel fair.

“Together with our partner EFA-S, a renowned e-drive specialist for vans, we were able to extend the reach of the vehicles more than 30 percent to a total of around 400 kilometers,” says Thomas Gräter, managing director of WOF GmbH which has developed the Iridium brand.

The company is based in Weilheim an der Teck in Southwest Germany and specializes in the sale of motorhomes. It developed Iridium as the first worldwide brand which is totally dedicated to electric campers.

“We will start our second generation with a limited edition of 30 vehicles which may be ordered on the Iridium stand at the travel and camper fair in Düsseldorf,” added Thomas Gräter.

Delivery of the first e-motorhomes will start in the first quarter of 2020.

The Caravan Salon Düsseldorf takes place from August 31st until September 8th 2019 on the trade fair in Düsseldorf. The new Iridium e-mobile will be shown in hall 12 at stand B 66.

Furthermore, there will be a ready to drive first generation Iridium e-motorhome available to test drive at the show if booked in advance.

“At Iridium, we are very proud to be the first ones who not only showed a prototype but also brought the first e-mobile to market, which can be purchased right away”, adds Gräter.

“Race cars in formula One have a torque of about 400 Nm, so no hill should be a problem.”

Since 2012, WOF GmbH has been headquartered in Weilheim an der Teck in Germany’s southwestern state Baden-Württemberg specializing in the distribution of motorhomes from different brands. With its own brand, Iridium, the company is dedicated to the development and sale of electrically powered motorhomes only. WOF is also the importer for the brand Mooveo in Germany and Austria. These motorhomes and camper vans are produced by the French group Pilote and are sold by around 20 licensed dealers who additionally provide service to these vehicles. A further brand promoted by WOF is Bela. For more information, please, go to www.iridium-wohnmobile.de or www.wof-wohnmobile.de.
