Ford pauses production of Ford Transit and Transit Custom in Europe due to chip shortage

According to the latest reports, Ford has had to temporarily stop production of the Ford Transit and Transit Custom at its plant in Turkey due to the shortages of microchips that is affecting the whole automotive and RV industry at the moment.

The Ford plant in Turkey is not expected to start production again until mid-June.

There is currently a global shortage of microchips due to a fire at the Renesas Naka, Ibaraki facility in Japan which supplies virtually all the top carmakers with its state-of-the-art microchips – as reported by AboutcampBtoB earlier today: https://www.aboutcampbtob.eu/renesas-targets-full-resumption-of-microcomputer-production-by-july/

Apparently, the Ford plant in Spain, which also builds the Transit Custom is also going to shut down production for an extended period. The Ford Transit and Transit Custom are popular base vehicles for several campervan and motorhome conversions in Europe.

Ford is not the only manufacturer to be pausing or slowing production due to the shortage of microchips. For example, Jaguar Land Rover have also paused production for a “limited period” at certain plants.
