Erwin Hymer Group provides assistance for refugees from Ukraine

The Erwin Hymer Group, (EHG) together with its parent company, Thor Industries, is providing logistical aid assistance at its facility in Poland for the influx of refugees from Ukraine.

Its recently acquired production site in Nowa Sól, Poland, which is currently still under construction, will be used in the short term as a logistics hub for relief supplies. The site was acquired by EHG in October 2021 to create additional manufacturing capacity, with its first campervans expected to leave the factory in early 2024. The crisis in Ukraine led to a spontaneous decision to help improve the humanitarian situation.

The majority of refugees from Ukraine are currently staying in private accommodation. The future EHG production facility was available at short notice to supply them with essentials. If the number of refugees continues to rise, the production hall could also serve as emergency accommodation.

Work on the Nowa Sól plant was supposed to start in early spring, but within days of the start of the war in Ukraine at the end of February, EHG, led by COO Jan Francke, together with the Mayor of Nowa Sól, Wadim Tyszkiewicz, the local Red Cross and Trevor Gasper, SVP and General Counsel of THOR Industries, developed a concept in which the facility could be efficiently used for relief supplies logistics.

The EHG has also provided €25,000 to purchase necessary refrigeration for food and a basic contingent of urgently needed aid, from hygiene items and baby food to sleeping bags and mattresses.

Martin Brandt, CEO of EHG said: “With the first images from the regions affected by the war, we felt the need to improve the humanitarian situation for people who have fled Ukraine. We are happy to be able to support the Polish authorities and aid organizations in this emergency situation with our hall, which is currently being renovated. Working with local people in Nowa Sól is wonderful.”

The Erwin Hymer Group is a 100 percent subsidiary of THOR Industries, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of recreational vehicles with more than 31,000 employees worldwide.
