Campsites in the Netherlands enjoyed a record-breaking 10 million overnight stays for the first half of 2025, according to new data from campsite specialist ACSI and the Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).
Compared to the same period in 2024, the 10,276,000 overnight stays recorded on Dutch campsites in the first half of 2025 represents a 5 per cent increase.
Of those stays, around two-thirds (almost 6.9 million) were Dutch holidaymakers, while around one-third (almost 3.4 million) were international visitors.
The total number of guests for the first half of 2025 was recorded at 2.5 million, which is 15 per cent higher than the same period in 2024.
Ramon van Reine, the CEO of ACSI, reflected on data from a decade ago to highlight the increasing strength of the camping market in the Netherlands: “In the first six months of 2015, there were 7 million camping nights in the Netherlands, which makes the figure from 2025 a 46 per cent increase in 10 years. The number of foreign camping guests has more than doubled: up 115 per cent. At that time (2015), there were 330,000 guests from abroad in the first half of the year, and now there are almost 900,000.
“Compared to the 2019 preseason, we are seeing more than 35 per cent more overnight stays, with foreign campers spending 50 per cent more nights in our country than before the pandemic.”
This strong first half of 2025 for the Dutch camping industry comes off the back of a record-breaking year in 2024 – optimism is high among industry experts that 2025 will continue the strong trend and be another record-breaking year.
Ramon van Reine concluded: “The figures for the first half of 2025 bode well for the rest of the calendar year, as the absolute peak period logically concerns mainly July and August. Last year, Dutch campsites recorded around 12 million overnight stays in those two months alone.”
