Camping specialist ACSI has revealed that the number of campsites in Europe with charging points for electric cars has almost tripled in the last two-and-a-half years.
The organisation inspects almost 10,000 campsites per year and found that at the conclusion of its most recent inspections in June 2025 that exactly 2,000 had EV chargers for cars. In January 2023, this figure stood at just 714.
“Not only in the Netherlands, but also in the rest of Europe, electric driving is becoming more and more the standard,” said Ramon van Reine, CEO of ACSI. “Yet there is some restraint for a long trip to the campsite, with or without a caravan or trailer tent at the towbar. Campers therefore, have many questions about charging stations on the road and at the campsites. That is why, since 2022, our campsite inspectors have been checking whether charging facilities for electric cars are present during their campsite inventories.”
The country with the highest percentage of campsites that have charging points for electric cars of those studied by ACSI is the Netherlands, with 36.1 per cent. Luxembourg was second with 34.3 per cent, and Norway third with 32.9 per cent.
The rest of top 15 is as follows: Belgium (31.9 per cent), Croatia (30.4 per cent), Sweden (27 per cent), Denmark (25.5 per cent), Austria (24.8 per cent), Italy (24.3 per cent), Slovenia (24.2 per cent), Spain (21.6 per cent), France (18.5 per cent), Switzerland (16.6 per cent), the United Kingdom (15.9 per cent), and Germany (15.4 per cent).
Ramon van Reine added: “Campsites across Europe are responding rapidly to the needs of campers, also because guests were going to charge their electric vehicles via the power pole at their own camping pitch. This is explicitly forbidden at most campsites. Also, on the way to a foreign campsite, electric drivers still have little to worry about, because especially along the French and German highways, the charging infrastructure is now very good.”
